O’ahu & Kaneohe Profile

Kingdom Living’s Full-Time school is located in beautiful Kaneohe, HI, on the east side of the island of O’ahu.  Kaneohe (pronounced KAH-nay-OH-hay) boasts many cultural and modern attractions: a botanical garden, ancient fish farms, lush jungles, a shopping mall, local and national restaurants, and is surrounded by enchanting Kaneohe Bay, one of the most picturesque places in the world.

The sister town of Kailua (just a few minutes away) is home to beaches that are consistently ranked as some of the best in the world.  Besides modern conveniences such as Target, Whole Foods, Starbucks, and numerous local/national dining options, you’ll find all the fishing, kayaking, stand up paddling, hiking, and outdoor adventure that you can handle!

Kaneohe & Kailua’s locations make them perfect places to live.  3 major highways connect these towns to the rest of the island, making them ultra-accessible and convenient.  Wherever you’re going, there’s an easy route to get there!

Beaches

Kailua Beach Park and Lanikai Beach are consistently ranked as two of the best and most beautiful in the world.  Their dreamy turquoise waters and feathery white sand consistently bring both locals and tourists out to enjoy O’ahu’s natural beauty.  The ocean is usually calm, so swimming and water activities are available most of the year.

A short drive up the eastern (windward) coastline brings you to dozens of deserted and serene beaches to explore.  Further up the road, you’ll hit the fabled North Shore of Oahu, where winter waves bring surfers from around the globe to try to ride some of the world’s biggest (and most dangerous) waves.

Climate

Hawai’i is famous for it’s beautiful climate, and Kaneohe is an ideal spot to live!  Kaneohe is on the eastern (or windward) side of the island of O’ahu, which benefits from cool daily trade winds throughout the year.  Summers are warmer and drier; winters are cooler and wetter (relatively speaking!).  Kaneohe/Kailua are bordered by the majestic Ko’olau Mountains, some of the most dramatic and iconic in the state.  The yearly average temperatures range from 70-80°.

HOUSING

While attending Kingdom Living, you will be responsible for securing your own housing accommodations.  Rent in Hawai’i can be higher than on the mainland, so it is recommended that students find roommates/housemates to help share the cost of rent.  Once your school application is accepted, you can be added to our private Facebook page where you can meet other KLers and/or potential hosts who may be willing to provide housing.

We strongly advise KLers to do their due diligence when looking for potential roommates, housemates, and landlords.  Students assume total responsibility in researching and making decisions regarding leases, contracts, and/or housing agreements with individuals and/or landlords.

You can find housing option information here:

While students are responsible for finding their own housing, we are happy to help point students toward housing resources.

We recommend finding housing in Kaneohe or nearby Kailua.  Students may also wish to look into subregions of Honolulu such as Manoa, Palolo, Kapalama, Moanalua, Fort Shafter, Nuuanu/Punchbowl, and Makiki.  Other cities on Oahu to consider are Aiea, Waimalu, Pearl City.  All of these options are roughly 5-15 miles away and have shorter commute times to Kingdom Living.

Please note: The information provided is meant to be a helpful guide, not an endorsement of any specific website, person, or group. In no event will Kingdom Living / Lovesick Ministries, Inc. be liable for any indirect, special, punitive, incidental, exemplary, or consequential damages that result from a prospective or current Kingdom Living student choosing to contact any of the roommates, housemates, landlords, or housing options provided.  You assume total responsibility for all decisions pertaining to housing, roommates, and/or landlords.

When deciding to live somewhere:

We want all of our students to be in safe, healthy, and reasonable housing.  Planning ahead and researching the area you are moving to will prepare you both emotionally and financially.  If possible, make a personal visit (or a live video call) to see the housing before signing any binding agreements.

KL has no involvement with individual housing situations as we expect you to work those out with your potential roommates and/or landlords.  Pray about each opportunity and only move forward as the Lord leads you!

Transportation

It is strongly recommended that students have their own mode of transportation while living on Oahu.  It is possible to get around without a vehicle, but less than ideal.  For students wishing to buy a used vehicle, Craigslist Oahu and Facebook Marketplace are great places to start.

Some people may choose to ship their vehicles from the mainland to Hawai’i.  There are many companies that offer shipping of vehicles.

For those who do not have their own mode of transportation:

Oahu has a reliable island-wide bus service called TheBus.  Information about routes, pricing, and pickup locations can be found at www.thebus.org.
